Employee Spotlight
Each month we will spotlight an employee here. The staff here at Keystone work diligently to provide the most effective and up to day empirically based treatments available. What better way to recognize these efforts than to spotlight an individual’s interests and activities. This month’s employee spotlight will shine on...
When did you start working for Keystone?
I have been with Keystone a little over a year and a half. I started in June of 2009.
Where did you go to school and what degrees/certifications do you have?
I received my master's degree in behavior analysis and therapy from Southern Illinois University. With my degree I am certified as a behavior analyst.
What is your title and what does a typical day look like for you?
My official title is board certified behavior analyst. A typical day for me is spent out of the office. Most of my job responsibilities are fulfilled in settings outside of the clinic. Specifically, I spend time consulting for a school district in Georgia. With the school district I am assigned to multiple students cases who are diagnosed with developmental disabilities. As a member of the students IEP team I work with the rest of the team members to ensure an optimal learning environment for the child. This includes conducting assessments for the student, conducting teacher/parent training, and assisting with writing academic curriculum. In addition to school consultation I conduct in home and center based therapy.
What do you like about your job and what is most challenging?
I love working with children! In particular, getting to work with them in a capacity where I can make a difference. Seeing the progress that a client makes is extremely rewarding and hands down the best part about my job. The most challenging part of my job is making sure I am doing everything I can for my clients. I always strive to give 110% . There is so much that goes into each clients treatment and at times it can be a very daunting task to ensure that you are fulfilling all aspects of it.
If you won the lottery, what would be the first thing you would do?
If I won the lottery the first thing I would do is pay off my student loans! The next thing I would do is buy a house. I have spent several years completing my education and with that comes multiple moves. I would love to buy a house and have a place to live that is truly my own.
What or who influenced you to go into this field?
While completing my bachelor’s degree in psychology I took a class on the basic principles of behavior analysis. Dr. Lundervold was the professor who taught the course and within only a matter of a few classes I knew I had found my niche. After taking that course I became a research assistant for Dr. Lundervold’s lab. It was through this experience that I realized I wanted to expand upon what I had learned and pursue a graduate degree within behavior analysis.
If you could have dinner with one person dead or alive, who would it be?
There are so many influential and well known people dead and alive that I would be thrilled to meet. Ultimately I would love to have dinner with loved ones of mine that have passed away. I have lost a few close family members over the years; each of whom impacted my life. I cherish the time I had with them while they were alive and would love nothing more than to just be able to sit down with them one last time. |
