Summer Focus on Healthy Lifestyles for Children with Special Needs
Keystone’s 2017 Summer Program for children, 5-22 years old, runs 10 consecutive weeks at Keystone Behavioral Pediatrics, 6867 Southpoint Dr N, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., May 30 – Aug. 4, 2017. Enrollment closes April 28, 2017.
Our high quality program provides instruction in a low student-to-therapist ratio, with behavior therapists trained in the methodologies and best practices of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). This year’s summer program incorporates Brooks Rehabilitation’s pediatric recreation program, which focuses on providing recreational activities that foster a healthy lifestyle in children with developmental disabilities. Brooks Rehabilitation staff will facilitate wellness and fitness activities both onsite at Keystone as well as at nearby community spaces.
Your child will be assigned after an assessment by our clinical team to one of two tracks based on clinical need and best fit. The first track will be our traditional social skills track that primarily focuses on working in groups with peers on activities and projects, social play, independent play, group games, appropriate social interaction with others, as well as fine motor and gross motor tasks. The second track this year will be a vocational skills/self-help track. This track will focus on establishing hygiene skills, independent living skills, job readiness skills and safety skills in a structured group format.
Camp themes include the following:
- 5/30-6/2 (closed Memorial Day) – The Incredibles
- 6/5-6/9 – Ratatouille
- 6/12-6/16 – Moana
- 6/19-6/23 – The Jungle Book
- 6/26-6/30 – Inside Out
- 7/3-7/7 (closed 7/4) – Wall-E
- 7/10-7/14 – Atlantis: The Lost Empire
- 7/17-7/21 – Treasure Island
- 7/24-7/28 – It’s A Small World
- 7/31-8/4 – Fantasia
Both tracks will participate in community outings as well as fun activities throughout the week tailored specifically to the skills they are working on throughout the summer. All children enrolled in the summer program may be eligible for before-care and/or after-care services at a cost of $13 per hour between the hours of 8-8:30 a.m. and 2:30-5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Individual therapy services may also be scheduled during before- and after-care.
Cost is $500 per child per week with a registration/evaluation fee of $50 per child. Any enriching field trips that involve paid admission to a site will be the parent’s responsibility. We will do our best to ensure that fees are reasonable (e.g. under $10).
